GOLDSMITH, Deana (Main) ……………………………………………… Perkinston, MS
PASTELS: Having a passion for art all of her life particularly drawing Deana discovered at a very young age that she had a knack for doodling, a trait she feels she inherited from her Dad. Throughout the years Deana delved into all types of mediums yet always gravitated back to her first love “Drawing”. Born and raised on the prairies of Oklahoma it is only natural that the general theme of her work is wildlife. Having had an obsession with birds since her youth, she feels pencil is the perfect medium for portraying them as accurately as possible.

GRAPHITE: My work is inspired by the prairies of Oklahoma, where I was born and raised and by the beautiful seascapes of the Gulf Coast where he resides now. A self-taught full-time artist, Bobby’s style of art is realism to say the least. He finds great joy in all the little details and loves to wow the viewer. Next to Bobby’s love for realism is his passion for black and white. Blown away by how you can create an image just by changing values, he finds black and white is calming and in this in your face world he believes we all appreciate a little calmness. The third element of Bobb’s style is nature of course. His hope is that the time he spends exploring the great outdoors and composing the images will be felt by the viewer. To know that his work touches others the way it touched him is his greatest achievement.

These early, experimental works were usually given away to friends and family until one day he discovered how to add color and seamlessly fuse the acrylic into unique art forms. Grant started to create centerpieces for Walt Disney’s corporate parties and then started making displays for various companies such as Burberry and David Yurman Jewelry. In 2005, Grant was introduced to his first artwork by famed Israeli artist Yaacov Agam and he was instantly inspired by the movement of his pieces. Grant recently started incorporating glass, metal and wood into his acrylic sculptures.
GREEN, Jonah (Main) ………………….………………………………….… Cerrillos, NM
MIXED MEDIA: Green is a self taught, multi-disciplinary artist. In addition to painting and sculpting, he also designs and builds modern tiny houses. His current body of work is an extension of his career as a designer and builder of artisanal homes. Working with everyday materials and tools commonly found on any construction site in America. Using non-traditional tools to apply the paint giving the work a direct, physical connection to the imagery. The application methods require a lot of manual pressure. Using the weight of his body against the resistance of the wall or floor, Green spreads paint onto the canvas and scrapes away partially dried layers to reveal portions of the colors underneath. Paints are typically mixed on the canvas, resulting in a fluid and dynamic range of color. No two pieces are ever alike and his work is continually evolving. Geometric and alphanumeric imagery is etched into the multiple painted layers with scribes, dividers and awls. He hand fabricates all his frames by mitering, This gives the work a modern industrial aesthetic and compliments the architectural nature of the imagery. Green enjoys juxtaposing the angular, architectural forms of man against the organic abstract background. Archival quality pigments are used and all pieces are sealed with archival UV varnish.

MIXED MEDIA: Hequembourg uses his passion for the past with the elements from a 200 year old plantation creating nostalgic and emotional works that also benefit his subjects from his community. Aaron was formally trained in engraving and printmaking at the University of Iowa. Upon graduating Aaron started to produce abstract figurative paintings engraved into wood panels. In 1997, Aaron and his wife Hope were married in the front yard of a farm that has been in her family since 1815. They proceeded to move into the farmhouse and have four children, and over the course of their lives there a family member suggested burning down the sharecropper houses that were scattered over the farm. After seeing the value of the wood, Aaron began to salvage materials for his contemporary work; however, after experiencing the history of the buildings and the objects inside them he was inspired to turn to his neighbors and community for subject matter, paying 10% to each model with the sale of their pieces. It has changed their lives and his. The result is the most successful body of work he has ever produced.

JARJOUR, Bashar & Roula (Main / Boutique) ……………….……. Shippensburg, PA
CLAY: Jarjour Pottery specializes in ceramics and pottery, especially Raku pieces, in both decorative and functional forms. Their subjects are influenced by classical Middle Eastern forms, seeking perfection in the tossing of each vessel - balance, symmetry, and soft curvature in shapes. Bashar & Roula approach the surface treatment with care, extensively etching and carving vessels prior to glazing. The result is one of conflict and contrast, whereby a perfect and difficult form is finished with the chaotic craquelure of the Raku firing; where the undulating curves of each vessel are set against stark geometrical etching and highlighting.
KATTENBRAKER, Lisa (Main) …………….……………….………….……. Olympia, WA
BATIK: Lisa Kattenbraker creates narrative pieces using traditional batik methods, locally harvested beeswax, fiber reactive and natural dyes. Through hundreds of hours of wax application, both ancient and contemporary patterns and symbols are batiked into cotton fabric. Color, composition and pattern create an emotive backdrop while stick figures remain faceless, inviting the viewer to bring their own story to the piece. While the conversations, and the various reactions have not changed the way she continues to present her “human forms” i n art, it has opened up new conversations and dialogue about how we as a community and culture see race; whether and where it subverts itself into consciousness, as well as how and where race shows up as a form of personal recognition, and how it connects or divides us on both a conscious and subconscious level.

In his one-of-a-kind or series works, images are juxtaposed to articulate the message or idea. The focus is centered around the internal graal technique and overlay techniques, incorporating hand cutting, photoresist and computer graphics.

Maher-Valasquez, Colin (Main) .………………………………….…… Philadelphia, PA
MIXED MEDIA: Colin Maher-Velasquez is the husband of Luisa Velasquez-Maher; a half to a whole, a collaborator to his partner in art. Together with his wife, Colin has been a professional artist for 15 years. He travels the country exhibiting both his and his wife's work. Colin's inspiration arrived through a continued frustration with what he saw as a lack of freedom within the fresco medium he and his wife work in. He developed a way to mix nearly any liquid paint medium and marble dust together--especially those mediums that normally conflict with one another (acrylic and oil paints are commonly seen together on the same canvas)--forming a cascade of color and texture that had eluded him. Colin's eye is focused always towards the evolution of his technique. His abstract frescos are an homage to his wife's work--a style of fresco sculpting that they have honed together for over 15 years.
Velasquez-Maher, Luisa (Main) ….……..………………………………. Philadelphia, PA
MIXED MEDIA: Luisa Velasquez-Maher began her art career as a child watching her mother, a master seamstress, sew formal dresses for cotillons in her hometown of Santa Marta, Colombia. Her formal training through the Instituto de Diseno in Bogota, Colombia built on her impressive raw skills as a painter and fabricator. Before her two children came along, Luisa dove head-first into outdoor art show exhibitions as a way to market her work to a wide audience. Now, as a mother of two young children, Luisa has chosen to stay in the comfort of her South Philadelphia neighborhood, while Colin (her husband and partner in art) travels and exhibits their work throughout the country. Colin describes Luisa as the "godfather" of their technique and aesthetic--building upon a rich matriarchal tradition from within the Velasquez family. Luisa’s work explores the application of classic techniques and materials, and their relationship to a modern aesthetic. Fresco and Secco techniques date as far back as 2000 B.C.--with an academic treatise dating back the 8th century A.D.--there is still room for these works and the time-consuming skills to make them. The challenge, as she sees it, is trying to pay homage to the masters before her, while striking out her own path. Luisa strives to take Fresco-Secco paintings out from their figurative confines and explore their materials, so that the marble dust (pulverized marble stone) and the paints used to bind them are the main focal points. Knowing when a piece is complete when she can see color, texture, and movement all moving in synchronicity.

OIL: Darrell George is a native of Long Branch, NJ, graduating from the University of Delaware. As an art student and a football player on an athletic scholarship, Darrell was hardly stereotypical; he would eventually change his major to keep his scholarship, but was confident that he would continue to paint on his own. As Darrell’s athletic career ended he was anxious to continue his life as a painter. He immediately found satisfaction being surrounded by art while working as an assistant to James Yarosh of James Yarosh Associates Fine Art Gallery in New Jersey. Attracted to the Russian style of non-conformist artwork in the gallery, Darrell enrolled at the Bridgeview School of Fine arts in New York. Darrell credits his growth as a painter to his academic study with Russian artist Anna Rochegova. From Anna, Darrell learned many of the techniques, philosophies, and rigorous training habits of the Surikov Institute in Moscow, but credits his travels and time in athletics as the inspiration to his subject matter and palette.

The third element of Bobb’s style is nature of course. His hope is that the time he spends exploring the great outdoors and composing the images will be felt by the viewer.

MASCOLL, John (Main) ……….….……………….……………….…. Safety Harbor, FL
WOOD: John Mascoll's affinity for wood began at a very young age, when his father, a carpenter and boat builder, allowed him to watch (and occasionally assist) as he worked, using only hand-held tools. He taught him that working with wood was very addictive, and as he mimicked every move, cut and style his father made, he became hooked. It wasn’t long before he developed good skills, which he was able to utilize years later to create his craft art. In addition to what John learned from his father, he further refined his woodturning skills through participation in various symposiums organized by the American Association of Woodturners, as both demonstrator and learner. He also performed demonstrations at local and national woodturning chapter meetings, and, for a few years, taught classes in the craft at the John C. Campbell Folk School of Art in Asheville, North Carolina.

Her passion is to create a unique art form that reveals the seamless integration of the physical world with the human spirit. Today, she creates 3-dimensional objects from transformed materials. ZABISKY, Agueda (Main / Boutique) ………………………………. St. Petersburg, FL
CERAMIC: Zabisky, born in São Paulo, Brazil has been working within design over thirty years. With a B.S. in graphic design her years of working with paper and computer software left her with the need to work with her hands and how she ultimately found her passion in working with clay. Zabisky realized that she needed to respect clay so that it would respect her back and, as a natural consequence, a portion of clay could be transformed into unique art pieces. Inspiration is everywhere. It depends on how Zabisky viewed something. Often, saved drawings of dormant ideas come back unexpectedly and everything flows naturally with the continuous movement of seeking to align thoughts and ideas with possibilities; all maturing and suddenly making connections. The fascination of this discovery, so full of possibilities, has transformed Zabisky completely.
