Batik on cotton fabric, framed.
Framed dimensions: 32" x 38"
Fabric is hand sewn onto archival backing and floated in a solid wood black frame, under museum glass (UV protected and non-glare)
Batik is a process of dyeing fabric using wax as a resist. Each piece consists of up to 40 separate dye applications and hundreds of hours of wax application. All wax is eventually removed and the image is permanently dyed into the fabric. I use these ancient techniques combined with contemporary imagery to create narrative scenes.
