Gold Finches and Lotus Flowers
Gold Finches and Lotus Flowers Purple petals and delicate birds highlight this exotic still life. The birds appearing to communicate and fallen petals add to the complexity of the composition. Inspired by peacefulness, the delicacy of this image speaks to fragility and understanding the impermanence of life.
Beginning with a charcoal sketch I create my images using layers and layers of fabric. I call the process “textile mosaic”. To have the mosaic effect every small piece of cloth sits next to another piece. I use a multi-step archival adhesive applied with a brush. Every piece of cloth is added one at a time. All the fabric is hand cut. The cloth I use is cotton and silk, only natural fibers. Using vintage, recycled and hand dyed fabrics I utilize a variety of pattern size and colors to create light, pattern, depth and texture.
