Fired Nylon Fiber reinforced clay, Steel legs. Apoxie Sculpt Clay, Acrylic paint, clear coat. Copper and metal jewelry chains.
Stately IV is one of my very unique themes of horse sculptures with flowing copper jewelry chains for mane and tail. I use a very special nylon fiber infused ceramic clay. My sculpting process is four steps. I first sculpt a thick inner hollow armature using four heavy steel legs and a wire for the head, neck and tail. When completely bone dry I sculpt the shape of the horse adding detail and textures. No molds are ever used. Each horse is a one-of-a-kind. When completely dry, I add any additions or adjustments to make him exactly the way I want. I Kiln fire and keep the horses in the kiln for 24 hours to make sure the firing and cooling are perfect. After firing I sculpt additional details with Apoxie clay which dries very hard. I finish with top quality acrylic and metallic paints and layers of clear coat. His color is very rich and glows in the light.
