Fired Nylon Fiber reinforced clay, Steel legs. Apoxie Sculpt Clay, Copper covered jewelry wires, Acrylic paint, clear coat.
Free Spirit is a very popular style of my horse sculptures. The rich turquoise colors and full copper mane and tail make him a stand out in any environment. A real eye catcher. I use a very special nylon fiber infused ceramic clay which is very hard when fired. I first sculpt a thick inner hollow armature using four heavy steel legs and a wire for the head, neck and tail. When completely bone dry I sculpt the shape of the horse adding detail and textures. Each horse is a one-of-a-kind. When completely dry, I add any additions or adjustments to make him exactly the way I want. I Kiln fire and keep the horses in the kiln for 24 hours to make sure the firing and cooling are perfect. After firing I sculpt any details with Apoxie clay which dries very hard. I finish with top quality acrylic paints in blues, turquoises, and iridescent colors, and finished with layers of clear coat. Free Spirit shows off the beauty of attitude of wild horses and the spirit all horse are endowed with.
