Swinging My Girl
Swinging My Girl: So many favorite memories come together for me in this piece. A loving adult, a spirited child, the beach, and open space combine for a joyful image. Shades of white, cream, aqua, blue, and brown patterns are layered telling a light and airy story of a playful, loving moment so many of us have experienced. As you adventure into this moment are you the child or the adult?
Beginning with a charcoal sketch I create my images using layers and layers of fabric. I call the process “textile mosaic”. To have the mosaic effect every small piece of cloth sits next to another piece. I use a multi-step archival adhesive applied with a brush. Every piece of cloth is added one at a time. All the fabric is hand cut. The cloth I use is cotton and silk, only natural fibers. Using vintage, recycled and hand dyed fabrics I utilize a variety of pattern size and colors to create light, pattern, depth and texture.
