Butterfly Shaman
15" x 14" x 9"
She was hand formed and sculpted with clay. Her surface decoration is with oxides and underglazes that have been fired onto the piece. She holds a butterfly in her hair. She has a very serene meditative feeling of the sacred feminine representing female empowerment.
She sits in a black ceramic tray that has a bit of gravel in the bottom to level her out. In the past I have used these trays to symbolize my personal and artistic growth. I started working in clay to make bonsai pots for my bonsai tree collection. One thing lead to another and I wound up making sculpture.
This piece has been published in 500 Figures in Clay 2nd edition in the book itself and on the back cover. I have modified her since the publication and this is the current version of the sculpture.
