Perfect Is Always Dead Weight (Echo and Narcissus)
24" x 24"
Myth: Echo was a nymph who talked too much, so Hera made her repeat the end of every sentence. She fell hopelessly in love with Narcissus, which wasn’t a great choice since he was only interested in looking at himself. Eventually, he looked into a pond at his refection fell in and drowned.
I work in encaustic mixed media. I paint with beeswax, resin and pigment and then fuse with heat. I explore the nature of myth which is universal and mirrors our own mythologies in the present tense. Wax enables them to persist, revealing layers of time as their own brand of relic.
