Colin's paintings are an expression of color, texture, and movement. The paintings are constructed in multiple layers (no fewer than five) to ensure that movement, color, and texture are appreciated as a unit and separately as well. Oils, inks, and acrylics are combined with marble dust (pulverized marble stone) and then applied with a pallet knife. The marble dust acts as an adhesive for the paint to the canvas, as well as adhesive with non-reactive medium: acrylics and oils don't mix, but will if marble dust is their common base structure. Heavy patinas are used to highlight negative space and shadow before the final layer of color is applied.
